Vacuum casting
Vacuum casting service
The principle of Vacuum casting:
Using 3D printing or CNC processing to produce prototype parts of the product, a silicone mold is made in vacuum state, and materials such as PU, transparent PU, POM like, ABS are used for pouring in vacuum state to replicate the same replica as the prototype part
How does Vacuum casting work?
1.Prototype production:
Based on the 3D drawings provided by the customer, a prototype is produced through CNC processing or SLA rapid prototyping.
2.Production of silicone mold:
After the prototype is manufactured, making the mold base, fixing the prototype and pouring silicone. after 8 hours of drying, the prototype is opened and taken out, and the silicone mold manufacturing is completed.
3.Vacuum pouring:
Inject liquid gum material into a silicone mold and cure for 30-60 minutes in a 60 ° -70 ° incubator before demolding. If necessary, perform 2-3 hours of secondary curing in a 70 ° -80 ° incubator. Under normal circumstances, the service life of silicone molds is 15-20 times.
Advantages of Vacuum casting:
1. Silicone molds do not deform or shrink; High temperature resistance, reusable after mold formation; Provide convenience for product production
2. The cost of vacuum casting is much lower than CNC processing and 3D printing, with excellent quality and low cost and relatively short production time, which can prevent unnecessary losses before mold opening. Win valuable time for customers to develop new products and seize market opportunities;
3. Suitable for small batch production (less than 200 pieces), with short customization time and low cost
What materials can you choose for Vacuum casting?
Vacuum casting can also be used for end-use parts, as castable resins effectively mimic the properties of ABS, nylon, PP, acrylic acid, and soft TPE rubber.
Material | Color | Temperature resistance | Hardness | Characteristic |
TPU | White/black/semi transparent | 100 ℃ | 20-90Shore A | Soft plastic,color adjustable |
ABS | beige/black/white | 70-80 ℃ | 83Shore D | Good mechanical properties |
PC | Transparent | 70-80 ℃ | 80 Shore D | Good transparency,color adjustable |
PP | White/Black | ±70 ℃ | 83 Shore D | High impact strength, high fracture elongation, and excellent flexibility |
Nylon | White/Black | ±120 ℃ | 87 Shore D | High temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, acid and alkali resistance, good hardness and strength, and good wear resistance |
Acrylic | Transparent | ±70-80 ℃ | 87 Shore D | High transparency, low shrinkage, good UV resistance |
POM | White | ±120 ℃ | 80 Shore D | Good impact strength, similar to thermoplastic |
Temperature resistant material | Black | ±120-200 ℃ | 80 Shore D | High temperature resistance, other performance similar to ABS |
What kind of parts are suitable for Vacuum casting?
When developing products that require only 10 to 100 small batch production of plastic parts while avoiding the long delivery time and high processing costs of manufacturing injection molds, vacuum casting is used.
Vacuum casting components can be used for hand boards and display models, trade exhibition events, testing the fit and functionality of new designs, and can serve as a bridge to achieve greater production capacity
